We load your luggage - we handle it from ship to door - and set out through the mountain tunnel toward Portage Valley to begin the scenic journey to Anchorage.

Portage Valley Glaciers
As we travel towards Anchorage, expect breathtaking views of hanging glaciers and engaging stories about local history and culture.

In season, keep an eye out for spawning salmon in the clear creeks along the way.
Portage Glacier once filled the lake you see here. It has pulled back out of sight of the road, which makes the valley a clear lesson in how fast Alaska's ice is changing.
The Byron Glacier trail is about 0.8 miles each way and mostly flat, following a glacial stream toward the ice.
Honest note: low cloud can hide the upper glaciers. On those days the valley floor, the waterfalls and the lake still make the stop worth it.

Wildlife Conservation Center
Our route is known for encounters with moose, eagles, and possibly even bears, in their natural habitat.
Sightings on the road are luck. Here they're a sure thing, and every animal has a story.

Our guide will share insights into the behavior and habitats of these amazing creatures, making your wildlife tour both thrilling and informative. We also always stop at the Wildlife Conservation Center. It's a great opportunity to see many Alaskan animals across 250 acres
The center has cared for orphaned and injured Alaska animals since 1993. Many can't be released, so they live here in large, natural enclosures, and visitors help pay for that care.
Tip: the bears are often most active in the morning and when keepers bring food. Your guide knows the best viewing spots.

We stop in Girdwood, Alaska's favorite mountain town, for an optional lunch at a local restaurant.

Afterward, take in the Alyeska Resort area and enjoy a short walk up to Virgin Creek Falls, where the creek plunges through the rainforest. Time here is relaxed - linger over lunch or stretch your legs on the falls trail.
